What is Cranial-Sacral Therapy?
The craniosacral rhythm is the cyclical wave of the cerebrospinal fluid which ebbs and flows within the membrane around the brain and spinal cord. As the name suggests. This rhythm creates a subtle motion at the head (cranium) and the base of the spine (sacrum), where the practitioner can most easily feel it.
The gentle technique of craniosacral therapy enables a practitioner to perceive and enhance the delicate movements of the craniosacral rhythm in the bones of your head, spine, low back, and in fact almost anywhere on your body. The interaction between the practitioner and your body is as subtle as the craniosacral movement itself. The practitioner begins by simply placing his or her hands on your body and feeling or "listening” to the rhythm. Beyond listening practitioners use gentle touch equivalent to or less than a nickel's weight.
Craniosacral therapy can allow for the release of physical, mental, and emotional tension and enhance the function of every system in the body. Stress-related conditions often improve including anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, depression, digestive, menstrual and other problems with organ functions, breathing difficulties, and headaches.
